Hold On sits on the horizon, looking forwards and backwards, asking the listener to sit between the brutality of the world and the inner tenderness that has to survive in the face of it. Written as both a response to personal metamorphosis and a world changing at a frightening pace, the lyrical and musical space in Hold On offers some respite from these implosions. Working with Producer and pianist Sam Beste (aka the Vernon Spring) Loa have created a soundworld that is rich with colour and depth, revealing itself slowly, as though looking at a long exposure photograph. Their approach draws upon a musical inheritance that’s both soulful and contemporary; from Joni Mitchell to Nils Frahm, James Blake and Adrianne Lenker.
